54-Year-Old Man Declared Dead After Three-Car Collision near Cheyenne AvenueLAS VEGAS, NV (May 30, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, a multi-vehicle crash at Interstate 15 claimed the life of Thomas Otken.The accident took place just south of Cheyenne Avenue on May 16th, at around 2:38 p.m.Nevada State Patrol reported a chain-like reaction crash involving three vehicles in the northbound area of I-15. A white Nissan van failed to stop and struck another white Nissan van which then crash into the back of a black Dodge minivan.First responders took the driver of the first vehicle to UMC where he later died from the extent of his injuries. Police identified him as 54-year-old Thomas Otken.Meanwhile, the occupants of the black van sustained minor injuries and received treatment at UMC. A 26-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman and stabbing a man who attempted to intervene in the East Village neighborhood of Long Beach Friday morning, May 26, authorities said.Long Beach police were called to the 700 block of East Fourth Street just past 1:05 a.m. and found a man with a stab wound to the upper body, police said.They also found the suspect and attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the suspect did not cooperate, police said. Officers used less-than-lethal means, including pepper spray, to take the suspect into custody.He was identified as Corey Justin Taylor, police said.Taylor physically assaulted and stabbed the victim after he had tried to help the woman, police said.The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, police said. MARTINEZ — Two Concord men have been arrested and charged in federal court with transporting seven pounds of methamphetamine allegedly found during a traffic stop here earlier this month, court records show.Heriberto Gomez-Gutierrez and Salvador Gomez-Gutierrez were each charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, a federal offense that carries up to 20 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. SAN JOSE — An inmate attacked two correctional deputies Sunday evening at Santa Clara County Main Jail with a knife, sending the deputies to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.The sheriff’s office said the man exited his cell in the 6B wing at 7:22 p.m. Sunday and assaulted the two deputies with a “jail-made knife,” kicking off the “shocking and unprovoked” attack. The ensuing physical struggle went to the ground, where the two deputies restrained the man with help from other deputies.The two deputies were transported to a hospital, where they were treated for lacerations and punctures to their hands and shoulders.
