OAK PARK, Ill. — A century-old church and another church in Oak Park suffered damage from the recent high winds.School was in session Wednesday at The Children's School, which rents space from St. Edmund Parish, when huge pieces of stone were blown onto the sidewalk from the top of the building. Major flight cancelations, delays as severe weather moves through Chicago area "I was shocked, I was surprised," St. Edmund Catholic Parishioner Tom Pivarski said. "I was surprised both buildings were damaged, the school and the church."A parent of one of the school children said she heard the spires crash to the ground around 1 or 1:30 p.m. while school was in session. Along with the heavy stones, shingles appeared to have blown off the building and street signs were on the ground. A sixth-grader said he was in school when the storm brought the stones to the ground. Instead, it came courtesy of a native of Lockport in a different sport on St. Patrick's Day. It was a moment that Purdue wrestler Matt Ramos had dreamed of before it happened. TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas -- The Travis County Grand Jury concluded its review involving five Austin Police Department Officers in a deadly use-of-force shooting that occurred in May 2022, according to a news release from the Travis County District Attorney's Office.Those officers were identified as Derek Baroody, Travis Buck, Antonio Camps, Jennifer Perez Molina and Andrew Klinger. The grand jury did not return an indictment for either officer, according to the release.On May 26, 2022, officers were dispatched to the area of Faro Drive and Crossing Place in response to a man with a gun, the release said.Officers found the 911 caller, Robert Hammitt, at 1500 Crossing Place, the release said. The Bayport Public Library, which has been closed since August, will celebrate its grand reopening on Saturday.The library underwent a $2.4 million dollar renovation, which included a “refresh” of all three floors, said Library Director Jill Smith.Jill Smith (Courtesy of Bayport Public Library)Highlights of the renovation include: an expanded children’s area; new restrooms; new small conference and study spaces; new carpeting; new lighting and remodeled entrances. One of the three upstairs meeting spaces has been turned into a “wet lab for programming that can get a little messy,” Smith said. “It’s already been booked by the Girl Scouts.”Historical details like the library’s Log Room and fireplaces were refurbished and enhanced, Smith said.
