INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Although the Los Angeles Rams have played plenty of stellar offensive football over the past seven seasons, Sean McVay’s team hasn’t usually done it by simply squaring its shoulders and running the ball straight through opposing defenses. The Rams ran it relentlessly in the second half against Arizona on Sunday, and the result was a runaway win.Kyren Williams rushed for a career-high 158 yards and a touchdown, and Cooper Kupp made seven receptions for 148 yards and his first TD of the season in the Rams’ 26-9 victory over the Cardinals.Williams produced the Rams’ best individual rushing performance in nearly three years despite getting just 4 yards on two carries in the first half. McVay dramatically leaned into the running game after halftime, even calling eight consecutive runs to begin the third quarter, and his players responded superbly to the test of their toughness.“It’s awesome. I love it,” said Matthew Stafford, who pass...

Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo misses 2nd half against Patriots with back injury

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo injured his back in Sunday’s 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots and didn’t play in the second half.Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said after the game he didn’t have an update on Garoppolo and that he would be evaluated.Should Garoppolo not be available to play next Sunday at Chicago, McDaniels will have to decide whether to go with veteran Brian Hoyer or rookie Aidan O’Connell.McDaniels has always maintained Hoyer would be the first quarterback in if Garoppolo was injured in a game, but O’Connell started Oct. 1 at the Los Angeles Chargers when Garoppolo missed the game with a concussion. O’Connell completed 24 of 38 passes for 238 yards in the loss, but lost two fumbles, threw an interception and was sacked seven times in the 24-17 loss. The Raiders might want to see what kind of quarterback they have in O’Connell, a fourth-round pick out of Purdue. He was the emergency qua...

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Jared Goff and the streaking Detroit Lions keep finding different ways to win.A week after improving on their best start in more than a decade without injured star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, the NFC North leaders used Goff’s arm and a stingy defense to overcome the loss of leading rusher David Montgomery to beat the sputtering Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-6 on Sunday. With Montgomery (ribs) sidelined after the second quarter and injured backup Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) also unavailable, Goff threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns to help the Lions win their fourth straight game following an overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. At 5-1, the Lions are off to their fastest start since 2011 and share the NFL’s best record.“We’ve played well for six weeks. Biden is ‘weighing’ a visit to Israel for show of solidarity

The Biden administration is considering a presidential visit to Israel as a sign of support for the country following the brutal attack by Hamas. Two U.S. officials, granted anonymity to detail sensitive internal discussions, said President Joe Biden could land in Israel as early as this week. But they stress a trip might not happen any time soon, or at all, depending on the security situation in Israel and the state of a war that is quickly spiraling out of control. Israel is on the verge of ordering a ground invasion of Gaza.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited Biden to visit when the two men spoke on Saturday, the officials said, with one of them saying the administration was “weighing” the offer.Biden has told aides he’s interested in going, as his presence would demonstrate strong U.S. support after Hamas killed more than 1,300 Israelis and took around 150 hostages, including Americans. But the likelihood of escalating hostilities could mean that any future trip occ...
