PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- On July 13, Damien Greene was sentenced to a 10-to-15-year sentence in state prison. The sentencing was announced after Greene pleaded guilty to armed assault with the intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon-causing serious bodily injury, and mayhem. On May 20, Greene was offered a ride home after work by the victim and a third individual connected to the victim. The three made a stop so the victim could make a purchase. The victim asked Greene if he wanted something, to which Greene said yes. The victim purchased the items, but Greene allegedly became angry when the victim asked to be reimbursed. Greene's behavior allegedly escalated to the point where the victim ordered the driver to pull over to let him out. EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - An East St. Louis man was sentenced Tuesday for striking his girlfriend with his truck and killing her earlier this year. A Madison County jury convicted Richard Mayor in June of first-degree murder in the death of Lisa Dunnavant-Polach. The two had been in a relationship, but got into a dispute prior to the murder.“This was a cowardly yet cruel act by a criminal who has no regard for others,” Madison County State's Attorney Thomas Haine said. “To this day, (Mayor) refuses to take responsibility for his actions.”A Madison County Circuit Court judge imposed a 60-year sentence against the defendant. CNBC recently published a study that named Missouri as the sixth-worst state when considering the overall quality of life and work opportunities. ST. LOUIS -- A corpse flower named Octavia is expected to bloom next week at the Missouri Botanical garden. The eight-foot tall plants are among the largest of their type in the plant kingdom and witnessing the rare bloom is a feast for the eyes, and an experience for your nose. It comes with a powerful stink that is compared to rotting flesh.The Missouri Botanical Garden says that Octavia now has a twin. The corpse flower responsible for three blooms at the garden split earlier this year. There are now two huge plants preparing to bloom.
