Ahead of the plenary vote on the proposed Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), a large group of European and national associations across various sectors are expressing serious concerns regarding the approach to reuse adopted by the European Parliament’s Environment Committee (ENVI) on October 24.Many sectors recognize the good progress made on the draft PPWR in a number of areas which will help industry to achieve its circular ambitions. However, they are highly concerned with the amendments to Article 26 of the draft PPWR related to the reuse targets, which have been adopted by the ENVI committee, and in particular the following two elements:1. The possibility provided to member countries to go beyond the proposed increased reuse targets without any justification needed. This goes directly against the objective of the European Commission to promote harmonization and risks fragmenting the EU single market by creating a patchwork of national targets that will have a consi...Welcome back, David Cameron! The EU probably thought it would never see David Cameron again. But on Monday, the former U.K. prime minister stunningly vaulted back into front-line British politics, being appointed foreign secretary by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Despite Cameron’s role in instigating the Brexit referendum which caused years of friction between the EU and the U.K., at least some of the Continent’s top politicians are happy to see him back. “Welcome back, David Cameron!” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte gushed on Monday morning, about his one-time European Council counterpart with whom he shared similar views on free trade and liberal economics. “Congratulations on your appointment as Foreign Minister, dear David Cameron. I am looking forward to working with you guided by the close partnership between our countries — within NATO, the G7, and in the context of the EU-UK relationship which is more important than ever,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock beame...EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell to visit Israel this week

Soon, it will be auctioned for millions.

A Baltimore paperboy sold newspapers on the cities and streetcars of Baltimore in 1914, likely for one or two cents each. Along the way, he collected baseball cards of Baltimore Orioles players included in that day’s paper. He treasured them — particularly one of George Herman Ruth, a 19-year-old pitcher for the minor league Orioles — for years, eventually passing them on to his son. That Ruth card is now one of only a handful still around. And soon, it will be auctioned for the first time since it was issued 109 years ago. It’s expected to fetch at least several million dollars and could potentially compete for the title of priciest baseball card ever, a record currently held by a Mickey Mantle rookie card sold for $12.6 million last year.Archibald Davis, the paperboy who was 16 years old at the time, grew up to play semiprofessional baseball and later passed the cards down. Glenn Davis, Archibald’s grandson, remembered playing with them as he grew up in...Chicago Bears Q&A: Ryan Poles backed Matt Eberflus, but what’s the status of the coach? The Chicago Bears had some extra time this week between Thursday’s 16-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers and Sunday when they face the NFC North-leading Lions in Detroit.Heading into Week 11, there are still many questions surrounding the coach, the culture and the contracts. Brad Biggs answers your Chicago Bears questions, which have been lightly edited, each week. After hearing Ryan Poles talk about Matt Eberflus in his last news conference, what are the honest chances he actually gets fired come the end of the season if they win a couple more games? I think the team overall is playing hard and the run defense is playing eons better than last year — a key responsibility of his. But the pass defense is still bad for many reasons. Clearly they love his culture at Halas Hall given how much they use the word. I think it’s also important to not forget this is an organization that kept John Fox for a third year after a 6-10 and 3-13 seasons. — Gerry M., Chicago...Latest news
