PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — After a deluge of rain, flooding, sinkholes and tornadoes this week, New England is about to face Hurricane Lee.As the Category 1 system impacted Bermuda, Maine was under its first hurricane watch in 15 years and a state of emergency declared Thursday by Gov. Janet Mills. The water-logged region prepared for 20-foot waves offshore and wind gusts up to 80 mph,, along with more rain. The hurricane watch applied to eastern Maine, while the rest of the state and an area extending south through Massachusetts was under a tropical storm warning. Powerful winds and coastal flooding were expected to arrive Friday afternoon in southern New England and spread north.Although Lee did not contribute to the flooding that hit New England earlier in the week, it threatened to exacerbate conditions in a region that is already waterlogged. This Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, 7:51 a.m. EDT satellite image provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows Hu...What's at stake as workers go on strike at major auto makers

Heard this one before? A detective, a mystery writer and a medium walk into a Halloween party — who’ll come out the winner? The rest of the party include a soprano, a doctor, a nun, a chef, a bodyguard and a very serious little boy. This is the setup for Kenneth Branagh’s “A Haunting in Venice,” loosely based on Agatha Christie’s 1969 novel “Hallowe’en Party.” It’s Branagh’s third outing as the prodigiously mustachioed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, in the trilogy of Christie adaptations he also directs. It’s 1947, 10 years after “Death on the Nile,” and Poirot has sunk into an easy retirement in Venice, Italy, with a bodyguard (Riccardo Scamarcio), a former policeman, to shoo away the locals clamoring for his detecting skills. There’s only one person who can get past his guard, and that’s the fast-talking authoress Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey, in full gal Friday mode), who talks him into ...98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Should I Pay for My 18-year-old daughter's Botox and Lip Fillers?

She told me she wanted a spa day, which included Botox injections and maybe lip filler. I was floored when I heard those words come out of her mouth because she never seemed like the kind of kid that would want such a thing. She told me two of her friends who turned 18 just a few days ago got the same thing and she loves the way their lips look. I didn’t believe her till she showed me pictures. Well now I’m mad at their mothers for allowing such a thing. I told my daughter no way and she’s now not talking to me. Am I the crazy one for not letting my beautiful 18-year-old daughter get lip injections and Botox? I'm looking...Inside look at Spin Revolution's new Saratoga location

Dear Amy: I was the disciplinarian while my children grew up.I freely admit that I crossed the line multiple times in disciplining my son, but I have apologized many times.I try to help each of my children, especially in terms of financial assistance. My son is now 51 and lost his father (my husband) two years ago to COVID.Then his wife was in a terrible auto accident. I took care of her for six months before they moved back to their house (which is adjacent to mine).Three months later she went into a coma and never came out of it.He called me to come while the paramedics worked on her.He asked me to take him to the hospital, where we spent several days before she passed.I helped him with his finances and paid his bills (with his money), and set up a system he could maintain. He has a lot of anger issues. He mostly takes out his anger on me. He talks rudely to me, and only comes to my house when my daughter and son-in-law visit to help with projects around my property.Related ArticlesA...Mergers: Commission authorizes acquisition of Webhelp by Concentrix

The transaction mainly concerns IT services in which both companies are active, with emphasis on business process outsourcing (BPO) services, in particular BPO services relating to the management of customer experience (“CXM BPO”). The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on the market and due to the number of competitors active in the markets where the companies are active. The transaction was examined under the normal merger control procedure.Review: Tina Fey brings new spark to Poirot franchise

By Lindsey Bahr | Associated PressKenneth Branagh indulges in the kind of macabre theatricality that only a crumbling Venetian palazzo on a stormy Halloween night can provide in ” A Haunting in Venice. ”Moviegoers probably long ago made up their mind one way or another about Branagh’s stately and flawed Hercule Poirot franchise, but should there be any curiosity left for this third installment is worth it. It is spooky, fun and features Tina Fey, looking smart and sleek in post-war suits as the fast-talking author of wildly successful whodunnits who says things like “I’m the smartest person I know” in a mid-Atlantic accent.Set in 1947 on a particularly foggy night in the city of canals, “A Haunting in Venice” is beautiful to look at, with costumes by Sammy Sheldon, production design by John Paul Kelly and cinematography by Haris Zambarloukos. And it’s embellished with moody but palatable scares that feel reminiscent of classics l...Latest news
