Fire tears through building on Main Street in Falmouth

Multiple people were taken to the hospital Monday after flames tore through a building along Main Street in Falmouth, officials said. The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Monday afternoon and soon drew a massive emergency response near the corner of Main Street and Academy Lane.Later speaking to reporters, Falmouth Fire Chief Timothy Smith said at least two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries linked to this fire. One firefighter was also treated and later released. Several people were displaced from their homes after Smith said their apartments were damaged.“The personnel did a phenomenal job, especially since they had injuries when they first got here, as well as the amount of fire that they had,” Smith said. The building that burned in this fire includes multiple businesses on its first floor and several apartments on its second floor. The Chicago White Sox continued an active week Friday by signing pitcher Chris Flexen to a one-year, $1.75 million deal, a source confirmed to the Tribune.The right-hander has a career 27-34 record with a 4.95 ERA, two saves and 343 strikeouts in 120 appearances (80 starts) during six seasons with the New York Mets (2017-19), Seattle Mariners (2021-23) and Colorado Rockies (2023). The victim has been identified after a man died from being stabbed early Saturday morning at a homeless shelter near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bathurst Street.Police were called to the area just before 2:00 a.m. for reports of a stabbing. ROCHESTER, New York (AP) — Police were investigating after a fiery two-vehicle collision killed two people and injured five others in Rochester, New York, early on New Year's Day, officials said. The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. Monday as officers were directing traffic after a concert let out at the Kodak Center theater complex, police said in a statement. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A South Glens Falls man was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on Monday evening.
