Read more Letters to the Editor. We must keepwildlife connectedRe: “Highway 101 wildlife overpass proposed to sustain diversity” (Page A1, June 10).It’s exciting to see the state work toward building more wildlife bridges. Connecting what’s left of existing habitat gives pumas and other animals a much-needed lifeline. But bridges alone won’t solve the extinction crisis. If we continue to make poor land-use decisions that pave over habitats and the areas connecting them, we’ll undermine the wildlife benefits of a freeway bridge. That’s why the proposal to build a sand quarry near Gilroy would be disastrous.Like in Southern California, local mountain lions are spiraling toward extinction because roads and development have sliced up their habitat and boxed them in. This region is critical because it connects the Santa Cruz Mountains, Gabilan Range and Diablo Range. It’s also vulnerable to development.Protecting and reconnecting ...Los Gatos: Checking out The Cats’ new barbecue menu, new look
