Girls in Kingston and surrounding towns had an opportunity to explore the trades on Thursday.An event organized by Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) saw grade 7 and 8 students from the Limestone District School Board (LDSB), Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB), and Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) visit St. Lawrence College to attend interactive demos and meet local industry professionals. OYAP hosts a number of events on a yearly basis to encourage students to consider the trades as a viable a career option, but Thursday’s was focused specifically on showing young girls in the area that working in a trade is something they can do despite how male dominated they currently are.Only 5% of workers in the skilled trades are women, and OYAP would like to see that increase in the coming years. Authorities are investigating an altercation in Melrose on Friday that led to a stabbing that left one man dead and another hospitalized, officials said.Officers responding to a reported disturbance at a home on Ledge Street around 7 P.m. found James Percent, 47, of Melrose, suffering from apparent stab wounds, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. (KTLA/NEXSTAR) — Actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role on “Friends,” has died from an apparent drowning on Saturday, TMZ reports. He was 54 years old.Authorities responded to reports of a cardiac arrest at an L.A.-area home where Perry was located, according to TMZ. It was a sea of pink outside Soldier Field as runners prepared for the 2023 Komen Chicago Race for the Cure.Loved ones of those who battled breast cancer and survivors took part in the race and shared stories of the battles they faced. Breast cancer clinic at Northwestern helping Hispanic women with diagnosis, treatment and support Susan G. Komen's sister started the foundation in 1982 with the promise that she would help find a cure.
