AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Multiple first responders were on the scene of an incident near Thursday near The Arboretum in northwest Austin, the Austin Police Department and Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed on Twitter.Shortly after 5 p.m., APD, medics and the Austin Fire Department responded to the 10000 block of Research Boulevard service road in the southbound lanes for the incident.Although it was not immediately clear what the incident was or how it occurred, officials said there was no immediate threat to the public.This is a developing story. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On Thursday, Texas Congressman Greg Casar (D-Texas), said he was actively creating federal legislation to require Texas' electrical grid to connect to the national grids, according to a news release from Casar's office.“I am drafting federal legislation to connect Texas to the national electric grids,” Casar said in the news release. “Whether we’re in the middle of a heat wave or a winter storm, Texas should be able to keep the lights on. This legislation will help consumers, improve the economy, generate more clean power, and save lives.”The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which operates the grid for a majority of the state, has requested Texans to conserve energy nearly everyday over the past week. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Weiss High School jumped into the rankings with a big win over Round Rock in the first week of the season, and the Wolves host the LBJ Jaguars at 7 p.m. in the KBVO Game of the Week.Weiss went from unranked to No. 21 in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football/Associated Press rankings with its 37-7 win over Round Rock to open the season. Junior wide receiver Adrian Wilson, who has verbally committed to the Oregon Ducks, hauled in six passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Wolves to the win. AUSTIN (KXAN) – While Austin Independent School District officials work to overhaul its special education system, middle school student Aaliah Delfierro is starting the 8th grade. Delfierro, 13, is one of the hundreds of students within the district who were not evaluated for special education services on time. In the 4th grade, at the urging of a teacher who suspected Aaliah might need special education services, her mother requested a special education evaluation from Austin ISD. According to state law, the district was supposed to complete the evaluation no more than 45 school days later. Instead, Aaliah’s student records show, that the district did not evaluate the student until more than a year later.The evaluation identified she was diagnosed with ADHD. Tim Walz’s family’s cat is missing, and he asked Thursday for St. Paul neighbors to keep an eye out for him.“Some news out of the Walz household: Our family cat, Afton, has gone missing,” he wrote on social media. “… There will be two very grateful kids over here if Afton finds his way home.”Afton, a 7-year-old tabby, is an outside cat and was known to attend weddings near the Governor’s Mansion on Summit Avenue.The Walz family is currently living in Eastcliff, which usually houses University of Minnesota presidents, while the Governor’s Residence is renovated. Gophers starting linebacker Cody Lindenberg won’t play in the season opener against Nebraska at Huntington Bank Stadium on Thursday.Lindenberg was deemed a game-day decision and the training staff made the call to hold him out, a U spokesman said. (NEWS10) – After the New York State Board of Regents prohibited the use of Indigenous team names, mascots and logos, most of the affected public schools have come into compliance but some have pushed back including Mohonasen High School. The school plans to remove the logos with Indigenous imagery, and is already in the process of phasing those out, but has not started the process of removing the name “Warriors”. WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. – Two women are in custody in Webster Groves, accused of being part of a national stolen identity ring.An automated license plate reader alerted Webster Groves police that a 2023 Hyundai Tucson was in the area. Police arrested Darlene Fernandez from Florida and Jamie Vega from Oklahoma. Both are connected to a fraud investigation in Indiana."Officers in the area started doing area canvases and were actually able to locate that vehicle, occupied, right across from our police department at a church," Lt. Jillian McCoy, Webster Groves Police Department, said.
